Partai Buruh President Dismisses Mass Resignation Claims

Partai Buruh President Said Iqbal has publicly addressed claims made by the party's Secretary-General, Ferri Nuzarli, regarding a mass resignation. Nuzarli asserted that he, along with approximately 1.3 million members and officials of the Organisasi Rakyat Indonesia (ORI), the party's political wing, had stepped down.

Responding to these assertions, Iqbal stated, "I have no comment, especially regarding the 1.3 million members." He downplayed the significance of the alleged resignations, characterizing such departures as a natural occurrence within the party's evolving dynamics. Iqbal affirmed that these events would not undermine the solidarity or operational plans of Partai Buruh.

He confirmed that the party is proceeding with its scheduled appointments, including the installation of central plenary officials and leadership for 38 provinces and 493 regencies/cities on Monday, June 29. Iqbal also assured that the position of Secretary-General would be filled by an internal party cadre.

Resignations of cadres are normal in party dynamics and do not affect the solidarity of the Partai Buruh.

Previously, Nuzarli had announced his resignation and the collective withdrawal of ORI members, citing fundamental disagreements. He stated that ORI, a political wing of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) led by Andi Gani Nena Wea and an initiator of Partai Buruh, found irreconcilable differences in the party's direction. Nuzarli instructed all ORI and KSPSI members holding positions within Partai Buruh to submit their resignations administratively.
