Pas-Bersatu Alliance Ends: Terengganu Pas to Discuss Follow-Up Actions

The Terengganu chapter of the Malaysian Islamic Party (Pas) is set to convene a special meeting to deliberate on its next steps and stance following the dissolution of its political cooperation with the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu).

Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah, the secretary of the Terengganu Pas State Liaison Body, stated that the state government's administration is proceeding normally for the time being. Any subsequent decisions will depend on current developments. The position of Bersatu leaders within the state government, including the chairman of the State Committee for Tourism, Culture, Environment, and Climate Change, Datuk Razali Idris, has not yet been determined.

Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang previously announced the end of the political cooperation with Bersatu. This decision was reached after a review of the relationship and future direction of both parties, and it was affirmed by the Pas Working Committee, which endorsed the resolution from the Syura Ulama Council meeting on June 2.

In the 2023 State Election, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, which included Pas and Bersatu, secured all 32 seats in the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly. Pas won 27 seats, while Bersatu secured five. A simple majority of 17 seats is required to form the state government. Razali Idris, a Bersatu representative, notably defeated the incumbent in the Kijal state constituency and was subsequently appointed as a State Executive Councillor, marking the first time a Bersatu representative held such a position in Terengganu.

Meanwhile, Razali Idris urged all parties to remain calm and avoid speculation regarding the political developments. He briefly commented, "Calm down, be patient first." He had also posted "Alhamdulillah" on his social media, which was interpreted as a reaction to the evolving political landscape.
