PASOK Attacks Tsipras Speech: “Citizens Now Know Who Is Really Opposing the Government and Who Is Backing Mitsotakis”

PASOK responded to Alexis Tsipras’s economic speech with an aggressive attack, accusing the former prime minister of returning to politics with “new delusions” and expecting Greeks to forget his record in government.

In a statement, the party said voters had not forgotten what it called Tsipras’s “blatant mockery and unreliability.” It accused him of promising better days for pensioners after abolishing EKAS, introducing the Katrougalos law cuts and removing first-home protection. PASOK also blamed him for bringing funds into Greece that it said preyed on Greek property.

The party attacked Tsipras’s promises of tax relief as well, saying he had squeezed the middle classes and self-employed workers while in power. It also criticized his pledge to offer a new vision for the country, pointing to the 99-year pledge of public assets to creditors, and accused him of manipulating the justice system and attacking independent authorities.

Mr. Tsipras has returned to the scene of the crime with new delusions: that this time the Greek people will believe he is someone else and forget that he exploited their dead ends and anxieties to gain power by deceiving them.

PASOK said Tsipras had rushed to speak at the Thessaloniki International Fair before PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis in an attempt to persuade people unfamiliar with current developments that he had his own plan. The party claimed he had copied 80% of PASOK’s program, including its proposal for a new European convergence, and had renamed its proposed National Wealth Fund as a National Convergence Fund.

“Citizens now know who is really opposing the government and who is backing Mitsotakis,” PASOK said. The party added that both Tsipras and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had been judged, and that Greece had no more time to waste.
