'Pass Misiryeong Tunnel, Get 250,000 Won Vacation Voucher'

To attract tourists and revitalize the economy, the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, in collaboration with the provincial government and four cities along the Misiryeong Healing Road, is offering a unique incentive: a travel voucher for drivers who use the Misiryeong Tunnel.

The "Misiryeong Tunnel User Vacation Fund Support Project" runs from August 1 to October 31. Each month, 40 participants will be randomly selected to receive 250,000 won in local currency. To qualify, applicants must provide proof of tunnel usage, such as Hi-Pass records or receipts, during the campaign period.

The vacation fund support project was prepared to widely promote the charms of the Misiryeong Healing Road.

Officials stated the program's goal is to increase traffic through the Misiryeong Tunnel and stimulate local businesses. The Misiryeong Healing Road is a 120-kilometer route that follows National Road No. 44, offering views of attractions like Ulsan Rock in Seoraksan National Park. Traffic on this section has significantly decreased since the opening of the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway in 2017, prompting the declaration of the "Misiryeong Healing Road" in 2018 to promote the area.

Choi Seong-hyeon, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, expressed hope that the voucher program will not only raise awareness of the Healing Road's charms but also encourage repeat visits and local spending through the use of local currency. The initiative seeks to leverage the scenic beauty of the region to draw visitors back to an area that has seen declining traffic.
