Passersby Rescue Driver After Marijampolė Traffic Collision

A traffic accident occurred in Marijampolė, Lithuania, on June 30 around 11 a.m. when two vehicles collided on P. Armino Street. The vehicles involved were a Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a man born in 1982, and a VW Crafter minibus, driven by a man born in 1976.

Following the impact, the Dodge Grand Caravan overturned onto its roof. Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to the Marijampolė Hospital's emergency department.

Remarkably, passersby demonstrated civic responsibility by rescuing the driver from the overturned Dodge Grand Caravan before emergency services reached the scene. Firefighters who arrived later righted the vehicle, disconnected the battery, and cleared the road.

Authorities have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident under Article 281, Part 1 of the Lithuanian Criminal Code, which pertains to violations of road traffic safety or vehicle operation rules. This article stipulates penalties ranging from community service to imprisonment for up to two years if the violation results in a traffic accident causing minor bodily harm to another person.
