“Pay my wages properly”… Construction worker protests on university rooftop

A construction worker staged a protest atop a university building in Naju, South Korea, for over two hours, demanding proper settlement of his wages. The man, identified only as 'A', climbed to the roof of a university building on campus and sat on the ledge, prompting a response from emergency services.

According to reports from the integrated fire department and police in Naju, the incident began around 12:22 PM. The worker, who was employed by a subcontractor for interior construction work at the university, claimed he had not received his wages from the interior company. This led him to take drastic action to draw attention to his plight.

Police and firefighters arrived at the scene, deploying an air mattress as a precautionary measure. They engaged in negotiations with the worker, promising to facilitate a dialogue between him, the interior company, and the main contractor. After approximately two and a half hours, the worker voluntarily descended from the roof around 2:50 PM. Authorities are now investigating the details of the unpaid wages with the worker and the company representatives.
