PB Djarum Badminton Audition Returns to Makassar After Decade-Long Absence

The PB Djarum General Audition is making a significant return to Makassar, South Sulawesi, for the first time in ten years. This major badminton talent search, organized by the Bakti Olahraga Djarum Foundation, is taking place from August 4 to 8, 2026, at GOR Dafest Makassar.

The event has drawn a substantial number of participants, with 233 young athletes competing across three age categories: U-11, KU 11, and KU 12, for both boys and girls. These aspiring players hail from 73 different cities and regencies, showcasing the widespread reach of the competition.

Sigit Budiarto, Head of the PB Djarum General Audition Scouting Team, explained that the selection process begins with a knockout screening stage, where matches are played to 21 points without deuce, switching sides at the 11-point mark. Successful participants advance to a tournament round played in a best-of-three games format, also to 21 points.

Budiarto expressed confidence in Sulawesi's potential to produce talented badminton players, stating that the region is a significant source of potential athletes. PB Djarum hopes to identify "super talents" who can eventually compete at national and international levels. The foundation also acknowledged and appreciated the hundreds of athletes who traveled from various provinces, including Papua and West Papua, to participate.

Prof. Warsinggih, Chairman of the South Sulawesi Provincial Badminton Association (Pengprov PBSI), welcomed the return of the audition, viewing it as a crucial motivational boost for young athletes and clubs in the region. He expressed hope that the PB Djarum General Audition would become a regular event, fostering greater enthusiasm for youth badminton development in South Sulawesi and beyond.
