PBNU Deputy Chairman Responds to Leadership Bid, Launches New Book

KH Zulfa Mustofa, the Deputy Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama's Central Board (PBNU), has responded to suggestions that he be considered a candidate for the organization's top leadership position at the upcoming 35th PBNU Congress. Mustofa indicated that he would not decline the nomination if it stems from requests by branch and regional administrators. He made these remarks following the launch and discussion of his book, 'Ithafu Ummati Al Muqtafa,' at the Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Central Jakarta. He emphasized that the process of electing the PBNU Chairman should be viewed as an effort to safeguard the organization's prestige, unity, and future. Mustofa articulated that leadership within NU transcends mere structural position, carrying a profound responsibility to preserve scholarly traditions, nurture the community, and position NU as a moral compass for the nation. Kiai Abdullah Syamsul Arifin, Chairman of PBNU's Da'wah Institute, noted a growing number of aspirations from NU regional and branch administrators urging KH Zulfa to contest the leadership. Kiai Abdullah described Mustofa as an 'icon of change' within NU. During the event, KH Zulfa also highlighted the significance of NU's scholarly heritage, stressing that it should not be confined to recitations, sermons, or oral knowledge transmission. He called for ulama and young pesantren figures to revitalize the tradition of writing and creating works that can be passed down to future generations. His newly launched book, 'Ithafu Ummati Al Muqtafa,' which translates to 'A Gift for the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad SAW,' comprises four books – three on fiqh and usul fiqh, and one on the biography and history of Sheikh Nawawi al-Bantani.
