PDI-P Inaugurates Kudatuli Monument to Commemorate 30 Years of Democracy Struggle

The PDI-P party officially unveiled the Kudatuli Monument at its headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, July 27, 2026. This inauguration marked the culmination of events commemorating the 30th anniversary of the July 27, 1996, riots, a significant historical event in Indonesia known as Kudatuli.

The monument stands as a symbol of the struggle, resilience, and courage demonstrated in the fight for democratic values. It is intended to serve as a space for reflection, particularly for younger generations, on the complex journey of Indonesian democracy. The Kudatuli event itself is remembered as a crucial moment that ignited widespread popular resistance against the authoritarian New Order regime.

Notable figures present at the inauguration included DPP PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and Muhammad Prananda Prabowo, Head of the DPP PDI-P for SMEs, Creative Economy, and Digital Economy. Former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and former Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini also attended the ceremony.

The three-decade commemoration of Kudatuli included various activities aimed at reviving the values of struggle and national spirit. The establishment of the monument is expected to ensure that the historical significance of the event and its role in Indonesia's democratic transition are not forgotten.
