PDP suffers fresh setback as Bauchi Rep defects to APM

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced another setback in the House of Representatives as Aliyu Misau, representing the Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, officially switched allegiance to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Misau formally announced his defection in a letter to Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, read during a plenary session on Wednesday.

In his letter, Misau explained that the persistent leadership crisis within the PDP made it untenable for him to effectively serve his constituents and advance development initiatives in his area. "The leadership crisis in the PDP has made it impossible for me to continue to represent my people and contribute to the development of the constituency," he stated, thanking the PDP for the initial opportunity to serve.

This move is seen as part of a broader political shift in Bauchi State, following Governor Bala Mohammed's departure from the PDP to the APM. Several other political figures and party loyalists in the state have reportedly followed suit or expressed intentions to do so. The defection further intensifies the pressure on the PDP within the House of Representatives, where the party is grappling with internal conflicts and factional disputes that have already led to a series of defections.

Misau's departure highlights the PDP's ongoing struggles with internal cohesion ahead of future elections. Meanwhile, the APM benefits from this influx of politicians and elected officials previously aligned with the PDP, solidifying its position in Bauchi State.
