Pedestrian Hit on Pan-American Highway Causes Major Traffic Chaos

A serious accident on the Pan-American Highway has caused major traffic disruptions during Monday morning's commute. A woman was struck by a vehicle near kilometer 20, on the stretch heading into Buenos Aires, resulting in three lanes being obstructed.

According to Autopistas del Sol (Ausol), the concessionaire for the North Access, the woman was attempting to cross the highway when she was hit by a Renault Logan. The driver, a 76-year-old man accompanied by a 35-year-old passenger, was traveling on the highway at the time of the incident.

Emergency services attended to the injured woman at the scene before she was transported to the Hospital de San Isidro. Judicial directives led to the area being secured for forensic police, contributing to the ongoing lane closures and extensive delays. The San Isidro police department and the UFI of Boulogne are handling the case, which has been preliminarily classified as negligent injury.

This incident follows a fatal accident on the same highway just over two months ago, where a 9-year-old boy on a bicycle was killed after being hit by a car near kilometer 43.5, heading towards Pilar. The child had reportedly descended rapidly from an embankment and entered the main lanes of the busy highway.
