Pedro Juan Caballero launches patronal festival program

Pedro Juan Caballero is gearing up for its annual patronal festival, a significant religious and community event honoring Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The celebration's program was officially launched this week, marking the beginning of preparations for a series of activities.

The core of the festival will be the novena, a nine-day period of prayer and religious services. Father Ronaldo Ocampos, the local parish priest, announced that the novena will commence on June 18 with nine daily Eucharistic celebrations starting at 6:00 AM. Father Ramón Chamorro, a Redemptorist missionary, is scheduled to be the main preacher.

The most important dates to keep in mind are these: on Wednesday the 17th, we will start with the Eucharistic celebration and blessing of vehicles, as well as a great caravan of faith; then we will have topics within the framework of the year of the common good.

The "Triumphal Day," June 27, will be the solemnity of the Virgin of Perpetual Help. This day will feature a procession of the sacred image in the afternoon, followed by a solemn mass at 4:00 PM. This key service will be presided over by Archbishop Vincenzo Turturro, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Paraguay, highlighting the event's importance.

Beyond the religious services, the festival aims to foster community engagement and local culture. Julio Winckler, one of the organizers, expressed the goal of making this year's festival even more successful than previous ones. A gastronomic fair offering local cuisine will open on June 17, and bingo raffles are scheduled for June 20, 21, and 27. A distinctive feature will be the traditional artistic carpet, stretching over a thousand meters, created by students and social organizations under the guidance of local artists.
