Pekanbaru Mayor Extinguishes 5 Hectares of Forest Fire, Urges Residents Not to Burn Land

Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho joined dozens of TNI-Polri personnel on Friday, August 21, 2026, to combat a forest and land fire in the Tenayan Raya district of Pekanbaru city. Nugroho was present at the scene from the afternoon until night, actively participating in extinguishing the flames that engulfed about five hectares of land.

Equipped with a water hose, the mayor personally assisted the ground crew in their efforts. The firefighting operation continued into the evening, and by approximately 9 PM local time, the blaze was successfully contained. "Alhamdulillah, the fire has been successfully extinguished tonight around 9 PM. We thank the TNI-Polri personnel who fought hard to put out the fire," Nugroho stated at the location.

Following the successful containment, Mayor Nugroho issued a strong appeal to the public. He urged residents to refrain from clearing land through burning, highlighting the current weather conditions that make the area highly susceptible to fires. "We urge the public not to clear land by burning. Let's protect our environment together," he said.

Nugroho stressed that preventing forest and land fires requires the cooperation of all parties. He called on the community to avoid activities that could potentially trigger fires, particularly intentional land burning. The Pekanbaru City government, in collaboration with the TNI and Polri, remains committed to ongoing efforts in handling and preventing such fires to mitigate the risk of further land degradation in the city.
