Penang air cargo hub to be expanded, boosting northern region logistics

Malaysia is set to significantly enhance its air cargo capabilities with the expansion of the Penang International Logistics Aeropark (PILA). The project, spearheaded by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) in collaboration with the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), will see the construction of a new logistics complex adjacent to the existing hub.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that this development will substantially increase Penang's air cargo capacity, transforming it into a larger, high-performance air logistics complex. "MAHB has many plans to upgrade air cargo facilities not only at KLIA but also in Penang," Loke stated. "Penang will be one of the main projects because there will be an expansion of the existing air cargo hub."

The construction is already underway, with an official launch planned soon. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been invited to inaugurate the collaborative project between MAHB and PDC. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to bolstering the nation's air logistics network beyond the Klang Valley, specifically to cater to the trade and industrial demands of the northern region.
