Penang allocates RM3.8 million to aid Quran memorizers, religious schools, and low-income pilgrims

The Penang state government has channeled over RM3.8 million to various Islamic initiatives, focusing on supporting Quran memorizers, religious schools, and low-income pilgrims. This significant allocation is part of the state's broader commitment to bolstering the Islamic Religious Development Agenda (APAI) 2030.

Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr. Mohamad Abdul Hamid, announced that a special initiative provides a RM500 one-off contribution to huffaz, individuals who have memorized the entire Quran. Since 2008, this program has recognized and honored those who uphold the teachings of Islam. This year, 700 huffaz were selected, receiving a total of RM350,000.

Furthermore, approximately RM3.25 million has been designated to assist 332 Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) across Penang. These funds are intended for essential maintenance, utility expenses, and student co-curricular activities, ensuring the smooth operation of these religious educational institutions.

In addition, 237 Hajj pilgrims from low-income B40 families received a RM1,000 one-off aid. Although distributed after the pilgrimage season, this assistance aims to alleviate financial burdens for those undertaking the sacred journey. Since its commencement in 2024, RM1.045 million has been disbursed for this purpose. The state government reiterated its commitment to supporting Islamic education, honoring Quran memorizers, and ensuring the welfare of the Muslim community in Penang.
