Penang PH Maintains Stance on Cooperation with BN

Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Penang remains steadfast in its decision to continue its cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO. The coalition's commitment to this alliance has been reaffirmed by its state chairman, Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow, who is also the Chief Minister of Penang, stated that there have been no internal issues or discussions questioning this cooperation within the Democratic Action Party (DAP). He confirmed that the matter was not raised even during a recent meeting of the DAP state committee, which was attended by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

"We are indeed sticking to that decision (to continue cooperating) and no one is questioning it," Chow told reporters. His remarks come in the wake of concerns raised by DAP National Advisor Lim Guan Eng. Guan Eng had previously questioned the state PH leadership's continued support for UMNO's role in the state government, especially in light of statements he described as 'unfriendly' towards DAP and PKR.

Guan Eng had expressed difficulty in understanding the stance, noting the lack of response to allegations made by State Assemblyman for Bertam, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican. Reezal Merican, who is also the Kepala Batas UMNO Division Chief, had denied BN exploiting identity politics during the recent state elections, instead claiming that DAP and PKR focused solely on one race. Chow indicated he was unsure if one or more individuals were questioning the coalition's direction.
