Penghu County Seeks AI Investment as Taiwan Plans Universal Cash Handout

Penghu County is preparing to capitalize on the central government's plan to distribute NT$10,000 to every citizen next year, aiming to drive smart transformation and attract AI industries. The county government expressed enthusiasm for the nationwide economic stimulus measure, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that the benefits reach local communities.

Beyond the direct cash distribution, Penghu County is actively seeking central government funding for various development projects. These include enhancements to transportation, healthcare, tourism, and essential infrastructure. Officials are meticulously identifying needs and potential projects to align with national development goals, particularly in areas like the "Balanced Taiwan" initiative, which allocates significant funds for regional development.

The county is also keenly focused on integrating the burgeoning AI sector into its local economy. With the central government earmarking substantial funds for technology development, including a specific budget for "AI New Ten Major Constructions," Penghu aims to bridge the digital divide. Plans involve using AI for smart tourism marketing, improving healthcare and transportation efficiency in its outlying islands, and bolstering AI education and talent cultivation. Acting County Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing stressed the importance of local governments effectively utilizing national policies and resources to foster tangible improvements for residents.
