Pentakorfo, Aetolia-Acarnania: Wildfire Underway – Aerial Resources Deployed

A wildfire erupted in a forest area in Pentakorfo, Aetolia-Acarnania, on Sunday afternoon, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Service. The Operations Center of the Fire Service received notification of the blaze around 5:15 PM, initiating the mobilization of both ground and aerial resources.

Currently, 16 firefighters, including a unit from the 6th EMAK (Special Unit for Disaster Response), are battling the flames on the ground, supported by four fire engines. Two aircraft are providing aerial assistance to the firefighting efforts. The Municipality of Agrinio is also contributing to the operation, deploying water tankers to support the fire crews.

The region was already identified as being at high risk for fires, categorized as level 3 for Sunday. This heightened risk underscores the challenging conditions under which the firefighters are operating.

Meanwhile, the Investigating Unit for Arson Crimes in Aetolia-Acarnania has taken charge of determining the cause of the fire. The investigation aims to uncover the origins of the blaze that has led to the deployment of significant emergency resources.
