People Power Party Criticizes Opposition's 'Past Regression' Remark on Park Geun-hye

Chung Jin-suk, the floor leader of South Korea's People Power Party (PPP), has sharply criticized the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) for labeling the PPP's invitation to former President Park Geun-hye to their convention as a "regression to the past." Chung retorted on Thursday, "If you're jealous, you're losing."

Speaking to reporters at the PPP's National Assembly members' convention in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Chung questioned the DP's involvement, asking, "Why are they meddling in another party's convention?" He suggested that the DP's criticism might stem from their inability to overcome internal divisions following their party convention, making them envious of the PPP's emphasis on unity with Park's presence.

Chung further advised the DP to invite their own former presidents, referencing a group of figures often referred to by the derogatory term "Moon-Jo-Chul-Rae-Yu" (Moon Jae-in, Cho Kuk, Kim Eo-jun, Chung Sye-kyun, Yoo Si-min). He urged the DP to show respect to their own party elders rather than criticizing the PPP's respectful treatment of their former president. Chung stated that the PPP would continue to show respect to its elder figures, advocating for this approach as the way forward for the entire nation.

In related news, Chung Jin-suk is scheduled to visit former President Lee Myung-bak on August 31. The PPP's office stated that the visit aims to express gratitude on behalf of the party's lawmakers for Lee's dedicated support during the recent June 3 local elections, particularly his campaign efforts for PPP candidate Park Heong-joon in the Busan mayoral race. The meeting also seeks to foster harmony and unity within the party.
