People's Movement Party, Founded by Ex-Anies Spokesperson, Officially Registers

The People's Movement Party (Partai Gerakan Rakyat - PGR) has officially submitted its registration documents to the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, marking a significant step towards becoming a recognized political entity. The party, led by its Chairman Sahrin Hamid, achieved this milestone after completing registration certificates for 38 regions across the archipelago, from Sabang to Merauke.

Alhamdulillah yesterday, July 22, 2026, we completed 38 Registration Certificates. 38 Registration Certificates from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Pulau Rote, we have perfected this effort for a better Indonesia.

Sahrin Hamid emphasized that the PGR's formation is a result of extensive grassroots efforts, distinguishing it from parties allegedly established by specific political elites. "This is not a party that comes from above. This is not a party that is handed down from above and ordered to be built. This is a party that was born, grew, and developed from below, my brothers and sisters," Hamid stated.

The party's leadership views this registration as just the beginning of a long journey toward full legal recognition and participation in the 2029 General Election. The next phase involves obtaining legal entity status, followed by securing eligibility to participate in the elections. The ultimate goal, according to Hamid, is to win the 2029 elections.

Sahrin Hamid previously served as a spokesperson for Anies Baswedan during the 2024 presidential election. Anies Baswedan himself has been designated as an "Inspirational Figure" for the PGR and was present at the party's declaration event on February 27, 2025. Hamid described Baswedan as a "role model, an inspirational figure, and the symbol of the spirit of change," highlighting his relevance to the PGR's mission of "struggle" and "change."
