People's School Program Introduced Through Photo Exhibition and Discussion in Jakarta

A photography exhibition and public discussion titled "Learning Without Borders, Creating for the Future" is underway at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) in Jakarta, aiming to introduce the "Sekolah Rakyat" (People's School) program. The event, running from July 21-25, 2026, utilizes visual storytelling and dialogue to foster a deeper understanding of inclusive education.

Alpha Amirrachman, an education observer from Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII), highlighted that "Sekolah Rakyat" is a government initiative to bolster a national education system that is more inclusive, high-quality, and equitable. The program specifically targets children from vulnerable groups, offering comprehensive educational services, including boarding school systems. "Every child must have equal learning opportunities without being constrained by social or economic conditions," Amirrachman stated.

Senior photographer Arbain Rambey emphasized the strategic role of photography as a visual communication tool for public policy. He believes photographic works can present stories more accessibly and build public empathy towards the issues they highlight. "Photography can present narratives that are easier to understand, build empathy, and show the real impact of a program more closely to the public," Arbain said.

The exhibition has seen significant public interest, with many submitted works reflecting a strong concern for educational equity. Organizers believe the visual approach through photography is an effective way to enhance public literacy about the "Sekolah Rakyat" program and build support for educational policies that promote social justice. The event also featured a fashion show by Rumah Quinsa.
