Peru and Venezuela have agreed to initiate a "progressive process" to "re-establish" their diplomatic relations, which were broken off in 2024. The decision follows Peru's government labeling Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's re-election as a "fraud."

In a joint statement, both foreign ministries announced that the first phase of this rapprochement will focus on reactivating consular relations. This move is seen as a crucial initial step toward the complete resumption of bilateral ties between the two South American nations.
