Peru's Comptroller Warns of 82 Critical Unaddressed Sites in La Libertad Amid El Niño Threat

Peru's Comptroller General's Office has issued a stark warning regarding the critical state of infrastructure in the La Libertad region, identifying 82 high-risk points that have yet to receive necessary interventions. This oversight poses a significant threat, particularly in the context of potential climate events.

The control body pointed out a critical deficiency in several infrastructure projects: they did not adequately cover the most dangerous zones identified by the National Water Authority (ANA). This suggests a misalignment between risk assessment and project execution, leaving vulnerable areas exposed.

Further compounding the issue, the Regional Government of La Libertad has only been able to verify the completion of four interventions. This limited progress raises serious questions about the effectiveness and pace of the region's efforts to mitigate risks and protect its population and infrastructure.
