Peruvian plane crash kills 13 after reporting mechanical issues

A passenger plane operated by Aerodiana crashed near Nazca, Peru, killing all 13 people on board. The aircraft, a Cessna Grand Caravan, had reported a mechanical issue to air traffic control shortly before losing contact, according to Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia.

Valencia confirmed that the plane was carrying tourists from Spain, Italy, and Germany, along with two Peruvian crew members. He stated that the Air Accidents Investigation Commission is examining the aircraft's trajectory and the mechanical evidence from the wreckage to understand the cause of the crash.

The minister expressed the government's commitment to a swift resolution for the sake of the families, the airline operator, and the aircraft manufacturer. He also met with the consuls of Italy and Germany in Nazca to offer condolences for the deaths of seven Italian and two German tourists.

Valencia assured that Peru is a safe destination with established tourism protocols, emphasizing the national challenge of revitalizing tourism. The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, approximately two kilometers from the Nazca aerodrome, shortly after the plane had taken off from Pisco airport with the intention of flying over the Nazca Lines geoglyphs.
