Peruvian Police Arrest Venezuelan Man in Fatal Street Altercation

Peruvian authorities have arrested a Venezuelan national, Gabriel Salazar Guzmán, in connection with the fatal assault of a man during a public altercation in Pucallpa, Ucayali region. The suspect is accused of delivering a blow that caused the victim's death.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old mototaxi driver John Arnold Rivera Yuya, a father of a 10-year-old child, reportedly fell backward and struck the back of his skull on the ground after being punched in the jaw. The impact resulted in his immediate death at the scene.

During the incident, the aggressor also reportedly struck the victim's father, who attempted to intervene, leaving him disoriented near a fence. National Police of Peru reviewed surveillance footage and initiated a search for the suspect, who preliminary investigations suggest was engaged in collecting informal loans in the area.

Salazar Guzmán was apprehended by officers from the tactical unit Grupo Terna on a nearby street. During his arrest, he asserted that he acted in self-defense. Police confiscated the clothing he was wearing and transferred him to the police station. The case has been forwarded to the Public Ministry of Peru for further investigation and potential criminal charges.
