Peshawar High Court grants transit bail to Noreen Niazi in Peca case

The Peshawar High Court has granted transit bail to Noreen Niazi, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Niazi faces charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016, related to alleged derogatory and inflammatory remarks against state institutions. These remarks were reportedly made during a podcast interview and subsequently shared on the social media platform X.

Niazi had petitioned the high court seeking transit bail in connection with a case registered against her by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad. The FIR was filed on July 27, citing various provisions of the Peca Act and Pakistani law.

A single-member bench of the PHC, presided over by Justice Arshad Ali, heard the petition. The court directed Niazi to appear before the appropriate court in Islamabad on or before August 20. Her legal team, including Ali Zaman, Amir Zeb, and Barrister Sarwar Muzaffar Shah, represented her in the proceedings.
