Petaling Jaya City Turns 20 with Festival Featuring Top Malaysian Artists

Petaling Jaya is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary as a city with a vibrant festival planned from June 16 to 21. The event promises a star-studded lineup, including popular Malaysian artists like Ernie Zakri, Shidi Data, and Salma Asis, who will perform at the main celebration.

The festival, organized by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), aims to do more than just mark two decades since the city's declaration. It serves as a platform to foster community togetherness and reaffirm the city's dedication to a sustainable, smart, and resilient future. Various programs spanning lifelong learning, digitalization, environmental sustainability, community development, and culture are scheduled throughout the six-day event.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon highlighted the city's transformation over the past two decades, attributing its growth to strong collaboration between local authorities, the community, and the private sector. He noted that the celebration honors everyone who has contributed to the city's development. MBPJ remains committed to enhancing service delivery, empowering the community, and leveraging technology to ensure Petaling Jaya remains a desirable place to live, work, study, and play.

Spanning 97.2 square kilometers with a population of over 807,000, Petaling Jaya has become a key economic driver in Selangor and the Klang Valley. Its initiatives focus on citizen well-being, sustainable development, digital transformation, environmental management, and urban mobility. The city has earned accolades, including becoming the first Malaysian city admitted to the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities and being recognized as a Child-Friendly City by UNICEF.
