Senator Adams Oshiomhole has launched a sharp critique of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), dismissing his pledge to transform Nigeria within a single four-year term as a product of desperation.

The Peter Obi that was governor of Anambra State is not the Peter Obi of today, because the Peter Obi of Anambra was one who said, as a matter of respect to the memory of Ojukwu, he will not ever abandon APGA. But before daybreak, once his tenure ended, Obi became a political wanderer.

Oshiomhole, speaking on TVC's Beyond the Headlines, questioned Obi's credibility and political consistency. He pointed to Obi's departure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after his tenure as Anambra State governor, stating, "The Peter Obi that was governor of Anambra State is not the Peter Obi of today... But before daybreak, once his tenure ended, Obi became a political wanderer."

The former Edo State governor further argued that Obi's background as a trader, focused on short-term gains, ill-equips him for the complex, long-term planning required to govern Nigeria. "Obi is a trader. Traders have short-term calculation. They are not into long-term projections. They are not wired to think of what situation will be in the long run," Oshiomhole asserted, adding that Obi's business interests involve importing rather than domestic production.

In contrast, Oshiomhole lauded President Bola Tinubu's economic reforms, describing them as difficult but necessary decisions to reposition the nation. He likened Tinubu's approach to a life-saving surgical operation, suggesting the country is beginning to see benefits despite opposition criticism. Oshiomhole also referenced Obi's past comments during xenophobic attacks in South Africa, implying they reflected poor judgment for a presidential aspirant.
