Peter Obi left his comfort zone against my advice, Datti Baba-Ahmed says

Datti Baba-Ahmed says Peter Obi moved beyond his political comfort zone despite a warning that the African Democratic Congress was not the right platform for him.

Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, described the exchange during an interview on the MIC ON Podcast. He said he went to the Yar’Adua Centre before Obi arrived, then pulled him aside to explain his reservations about joining the ADC.

Baba-Ahmed said he told Obi, “This is the last time I’m coming to this place. I gave him my reasons. This is not a place for you.” He later pointed to Obi’s departure from the ADC within four months as evidence that his concerns had been justified.

He also said Obi had moved away from a political position he previously held and expressed discomfort with what he called contradictions in political conduct. Baba-Ahmed said he could not have helped Obi stay in the Labour Party after Obi chose not to follow his advice. “Peter Obi moved out of his comfort zone against my advice. Beyond that point, I could no longer help him,” he said.

Obi and Baba-Ahmed represented the Labour Party as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2023 general election. They finished third behind Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.
