Petrobras attributes record profits to production surge amid high prices

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras attributes its substantial first-half profits to a combination of record production levels and favorable international oil prices, exacerbated by the conflict in Iran. The company announced a net profit of $16.6 billion for the first six months of the year, marking a 55.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Petrobras President Magda Chambriard highlighted that the second quarter alone yielded the third-highest quarterly profit and the highest gross and recurring profits in the company's history. While acknowledging the impact of elevated oil prices, Chambriard pointed out that Brent crude prices, though above $100 per barrel in the second quarter, did not consistently rank among the company's top ten quarterly price records. She emphasized that operational results, including record production and refining, were crucial to managing price volatility and achieving these historical financial figures. Petrobras exceeded its annual production target, reaching 3.34 million barrels of oil and natural gas equivalent per day in the second quarter, a 14.1% increase year-on-year. This surge in production allowed for a 12% increase in crude exports, enabling the company to capitalize on the period of high prices.
