Petrokimia Gresik Develops Soil Revival Solution to Boost Farmer Productivity

PT Petrokimia Gresik has introduced GladiAgro: Next-Gen Soil Revival, an innovation designed to restore soil health and promote sustainable farming practices. This development aims to enhance fertilizer efficiency and increase agricultural productivity by improving soil quality.

GladiAgro has already garnered significant recognition, earning the top prize as Outstanding Distinguished Innovator at the SDGs Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals 2026, organized by the Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN). This achievement paves the way for GladiAgro's introduction at the UN Global Compact forum in New York in September 2026.

Daconi Khotob, President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, explained that GladiAgro was created to address the critical issue of declining agricultural soil quality in Indonesia. "GladiAgro is part of Petrokimia Gresik's effort to provide solutions for soil health problems," Daconi stated. "We want to help farmers improve land conditions so that fertilization becomes more effective, productivity increases, and agricultural sustainability is maintained."

The innovation stems from Petrokimia Gresik's concern over the deteriorating state of Indonesian agricultural land, partly due to imbalanced fertilizer use and agricultural waste burning. Testing of over 40,000 soil samples across 27 provinces since 2016 revealed that 91.9% had low organic carbon content, compromising soil quality, fertility, and optimal productivity.

GladiAgro utilizes the microbial product Petro Gladiator to process agricultural waste into liquid organic nutrients. These nutrients are returned to the soil to enrich organic matter, improve soil structure, and restore fertility. "GladiAgro targets the root problem of low soil fertility," Daconi added. "Petro Gladiator acts as a decomposer to help increase organic matter. When soil quality improves, nutrient absorption becomes more optimal, leading to increased agricultural productivity and more climate-resilient land."
