PFIPC, PEAC controversy: Allegations against Gbajabiamila unsubstantiated -Coalition

A coalition of Nigerian diaspora groups has pushed back against what it calls "destructive criticism" leveled against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. The groups, including Concerned Nigerians in Diaspora United Kingdom, Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria, and Assembly of Lagos Youths, issued a joint statement to defend Gbajabiamila.

Their defense comes in response to a viral video that they claim is intended to smear Gbajabiamila's name. The controversy centers on budget allocations for the Presidential Fiscal and Investment Policy Commission (PFIPC) and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), which reportedly received a combined allocation of over N1.3 billion. Gbajabiamila had previously disowned the PFIPC.

Public service, particularly at the highest levels of government, often comes with intense scrutiny, criticism, and, at times, outright accusations. While accountability remains a cornerstone of democratic governance, it is equally important that public discourse is guided by facts, evidence, and due process rather than speculation or political grandstanding.

The coalition asserted that the allegations are unverified and appear designed to tarnish the Chief of Staff's image. They argued that such claims should not distract Gbajabiamila from his duties in supporting President Bola Tinubu's administration. The groups emphasized that public service, especially at high levels, faces intense scrutiny, but stressed the importance of basing discourse on facts and evidence.

"Attempts to drag the Chief of Staff into controversies founded on assumptions rather than facts amount to needless distraction," the coalition stated. They urged Nigerians to avoid actions that could undermine public confidence without verified evidence. The coalition also pointed out that the National Assembly is the appropriate institution to address questions regarding budgetary provisions.
