PGS.TS Nguyễn Tấn Trần Minh Khang Appointed Rector of University of Information Technology

PGS.TS Nguyễn Tấn Trần Minh Khang has officially assumed the role of Rector at the University of Information Technology (UIT), part of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). The appointment, effective June 1, 2026, is for a five-year term.

Khang, born in 1974 in Quang Nam province, brings extensive experience to the position. He previously served as the Vice-Rector in charge of the university since December 1, 2025. His academic journey began at VNU-HCM's University of Science, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Information Technology with a specialization in Computer Science in 1996. He continued his studies, obtaining a master's degree in Computer Science in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Information Technology, also specializing in Computer Science, in 2014, all from the same institution.

His career at VNU-HCM commenced in September 1996 as a lecturer at the University of Science. He transitioned to UIT in February 2012, serving as a principal lecturer until June 2025, and has been a Vice-Rector since 2017. Khang's primary research interests lie in timetable scheduling using metaheuristic approaches and computer vision. His work on timetable scheduling began during his doctoral studies, while his interest in computer vision developed in his post-doctoral phase.

Khang has authored 75 scientific papers, including 11 published in reputable international journals and 7 in internationally recognized scientific journals. He was officially recognized as an Associate Professor in Information Technology by the State Council for Professor Title on November 19, 2025. The university also saw appointments for two Vice-Rectors: PGS.TS Vũ Đức Lung and a reappointment for PGS.TS Nguyễn Lưu Thùy Ngân.
