Pham Van Song appointed acting president of Gia Dinh University

Gia Dinh University has appointed Associate Professor Pham Van Song as its acting president, announcing the decision at the opening ceremony for the 2026-27 academic year on Sept. 5.

Song earned a master’s degree from the University of Stuttgart and a doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin in Germany. He has held management positions at research institutes and universities, including deputy director of the Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning’s Hydraulic and Hydrology Center, head of training and deputy director of the Institute of Irrigation and Environment, deputy director of the Southern Branch of Thuy Loi University, vice president of Vietnamese-German University and president of Mien Dong University of Technology.

His research has focused on water-resource engineering and management, mathematical models for water systems and artificial intelligence applications in water-resource management. He has led state- and ministry-level projects and authored more than 30 scientific works published in international journals and conference proceedings.

After receiving the appointment, Song said the university would continue linking education with changes in technology and the labor market. “The university must continue to innovate so that learners not only study what the market needs now, but also develop the ability to adapt to what the market will need in the future,” he said. “Therefore, training quality, the learner experience, innovation and engagement with businesses will be the priorities in the university’s next stage of development.”

The university also appointed former president Associate Professor Thai Ba Can as chair of its council and recognized the council for the 2024-29 term. At the ceremony, it received accreditation for programs in Oriental studies, public relations and e-commerce under new Education and Training Ministry regulations.
