Vietnamese prime minister visits classrooms and boarding facilities at Lao Cai border school

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung toured new classrooms, boarding quarters and the dining area at a newly inaugurated school in Muong Khuong, a border district in Lao Cai province, on September 5.

Hung attended the opening ceremony alongside Education and Training Minister Hoang Minh Son and representatives of the Party, state, ministries and Lao Cai authorities. He said the 2026-2027 academic year should bring substantive change from within every school, classroom, teacher, student and the education sector as a whole.

He urged educators to overhaul management thinking and teaching methods, putting learners at the center. Schools, he said, should provide friendly, safe, healthy and humane environments where students are respected, encouraged to create and supported in pursuing their dreams. He also called for an end to the pursuit of achievement rankings, less unnecessary pressure and greater attention to each child’s abilities and potential.

After the ceremony, the prime minister spoke with students and visited clubs featuring the folk music of the Hmong, Bo Y and Nung ethnic groups, as well as school sports activities. He also toured the school’s Ho Chi Minh cultural space and planted a commemorative tree.

The school occupies nearly five hectares and has nine coordinated buildings for learning, living and boarding. It can serve 980 students and received an initial investment of 215 billion dong. School principal Mong Thi Duyen said the school had prepared its facilities and teaching staff while arranging meals and accommodation so students could quickly settle into the new school year. Hung also presented gifts from Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, with each multi-level boarding school receiving 20 soccer balls.
