Salah, who spent nine years with Liverpool, has signed a two-year contract with Trabzonspor, one of Turkey's largest clubs. Salah's move comes after he was reportedly close to joining Beşiktaş, but negotiations collapsed due to his financial demands, according to Beşiktaş's sporting director. Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher expressed surprise at Salah's decision, suggesting the Turkish league might be a step down and that Salah could still play in Serie A, perhaps at a club like Milan or Juventus.

During his time at Liverpool, Salah played 442 matches, scoring 257 goals. He won two league titles and the Champions League, and had a record-breaking 2024/25 season with 29 goals and 18 assists. Despite a dip in performance in his last season, where he scored seven goals in 27 league games and often started on the bench, his move to Turkey has generated significant excitement among fans.
