Philippine youth councils demand end to election postponements

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councils across Mamburao, the capital town of Occidental Mindoro, have issued a unified statement opposing the continued postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). The youth leaders argue that it is crucial to allow a new generation of young individuals the chance to serve in public office.

In a joint statement released by the Mamburao SK Federation, the councils declared their "strong opposition" to any further delays. They acknowledged the trust placed in them by their constituents and reaffirmed their commitment to their current responsibilities. However, they stressed the importance of public service providing avenues for emerging leaders and enabling other young people to contribute to their communities.

We, the Sangguniang Kabataan Councils of all barangays of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, stand united in respectfully expressing our strong opposition to the continued postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

The statement framed the Mamburao SK position as a call for democratic leadership transition, rather than an abdication of their duties. "We are not turning our backs to responsibility, rather we appeal for a democratic transition of leadership that would give a new generation of leaders the opportunity to serve the public," the federation stated.

This unified stance was endorsed by the SK councils from all 15 barangays within Mamburao, including Barangay Uno, Dos, Tres, Cuatro, 5, 6, 7, 8, Payompon, Tayamaan, San Luis, Fatima, Balansay, Tangkalan, and Talabaan, demonstrating a cohesive front on the issue.
