PHOTOS: Terrible storm on Lošinj causes huge damage, two hospitalized

A powerful storm, featuring a tornado, hit the Croatian island of Lošinj early on July 19, 2026, leaving a trail of significant material damage, particularly in the Lopari and Rapoča campsites. The twister uprooted trees, destroyed mobile homes, crushed cars, and damaged numerous tents.

Two guests at the campsite sustained injuries during the severe weather event. Due to the severity of their wounds, they were transported by helicopter to the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka for urgent medical care, as reported by Slobodna Dalmacija.

Photographs released by firefighters from the affected campsites vividly illustrate the storm's destructive force, showing uprooted trees, wrecked caravans, and flattened tents. The material damage is described as extensive, and relevant services are actively engaged in the cleanup and assessment process.

Adding to the chaos, a nighttime storm also beached six large sailboats. One witness described the event as lasting only five minutes but possessing "terrifying intensity."
