Pilar Regional Hospital Maintains Essential Services During Medical Strike

The Regional Hospital of Pilar is continuing to provide essential medical services amidst a nationwide doctors' strike. Emergency and inpatient care are functioning normally, ensuring continuity for critical patients. Additionally, key departments such as clinical laboratories, pharmacy, radiology, electrocardiography, physiotherapy, dentistry, and nutrition remain operational.

However, the strike has led to the temporary suspension of outpatient consultations. Dr. Lorena Calcena, the chief medical officer at the hospital, confirmed that emergency services are staffed with two on-duty doctors, and a surgeon is available for urgent surgical interventions. This ensures that critical care needs are met even during the industrial action.

While essential services are maintained at the hospital, a group of around 15 doctors has traveled to Asunción to participate in the national mobilization. This protest, called by the healthcare sector, centers on demands for improved salaries and working conditions for medical professionals across the country.

In the emergency area, two doctors remain on duty, in addition to a surgeon available for any eventuality requiring urgent surgical intervention.

Dr. Calcena reiterated that emergency and inpatient care are guaranteed. She also noted that an elderly patient was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Institute of Social Security (IPS), where the hospital's intensive care services are jointly operated. Medical consultations will be rescheduled once the strike concludes and professional activities return to normal.
