Pili Puppet Show to manage Yunlin Puppet Theater, aiming to create cultural hub

The Yunlin Puppet Theater is set to undergo a significant transformation as Pili Puppet Show takes over its operations starting September 1. This move aims to revitalize the venue and establish it as a central hub for Taiwanese puppetry culture.

Pili, a company with extensive experience in the puppet show industry, plans to leverage its resources to create a dynamic cultural space. The theater will adopt a curatorial approach featuring permanent exhibitions, special themed displays, and short-term projects. These exhibitions will delve into the history of puppetry, showcase different schools and artists, and highlight the intricate craftsmanship involved in creating the puppets.

The theater is a public cultural venue for all people, carrying the entire Taiwanese puppetry culture.

Beyond exhibitions, Pili intends to maximize the theater's performance space, offering opportunities for various troupes, creators, and schools to stage their productions. The outdoor plaza will be activated with weekend performances, markets, and festive events. Additionally, the theater will develop workshops on puppet manipulation, craftsmanship, cultural education, and family-friendly activities.

Pili's vision extends to increasing visitor engagement, aiming to boost monthly attendance from the current average of 8,000 to between 10,000 and 15,000. However, visitor numbers are not the sole metric of success. The company also seeks to build a robust audience structure and introduce Yunlin's rich puppetry heritage to international tourists, ultimately positioning the Yunlin Puppet Theater as a vital cultural base for Taiwan.
