Pineda Set for €8 Million Transfer to Monterrey from AEK Athens

Mexican midfielder Orbelín Pineda is on the verge of a transfer to his home country, with Liga MX club Monterrey agreeing to pay his €8 million release clause to AEK Athens. The move comes after Pineda expressed a desire to return to Mexico for family reasons and to work again under his former coach, Matías Almeyda.

AEK Athens had maintained a firm stance on their valuation of the player, and Monterrey ultimately met their demands. The transfer will see AEK receive €4 million immediately, with the remaining €4 million to be paid in two installments over the coming months. Additionally, Monterrey has agreed to cover certain technical and procedural costs associated with the deal, providing further financial benefit to the Greek club.

Pineda departs AEK after a highly successful three-year spell. Since joining in 2022, he made 174 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 17 assists. He was instrumental in AEK's two championship wins in 2023 and 2026, earning MVP honors in both. He also helped the team secure the Greek Cup in 2023. The transfer represents a significant profit for AEK, as they acquired Pineda from Celta Vigo for nearly half the amount they are now receiving for his sale.
