Pinja Kärhä Wins U20 World Athletics Silver in Hammer Throw

Finnish hammer thrower Pinja Kärhä secured a silver medal at the U20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA. The 19-year-old athlete earned her medal with a throw of 68.51 meters on Sunday. Kärhä, who entered the final as the top-ranked competitor, narrowly missed out on the gold medal.

Germany's Clara Hegeman claimed the world title with a throw of 68.99 meters, while another German athlete, Nova Kienast, took bronze with 67.89 meters. Kärhä had taken the lead in the competition during the second round but was unable to improve her mark. Hegeman subsequently regained the top spot in the fourth round.

Kärhä's personal best this season is 70.73 meters. Her silver medal marks Finland's second medal of the championships. Earlier, Enni Virjonen had impressively won the gold medal in the heptathlon. The competition in Eugene is concluding, with Finnish athletes having completed their events.

In other results, high jumper Ella Mikkola narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth after clearing 1.87 meters. She had struggled with attempts at 1.90 meters. Nuppu Willman placed ninth in the high jump final with a mark of 1.80 meters. Topias Mustonen achieved a seventh-place finish in the men's pole vault, matching his personal best of 5.35 meters.
