Pistol looted from Chattogram police station used in Jubo Dal leader's killing: SP

Chattogram police announced that a pistol, stolen from Kotwali Police Station on August 5, 2024, was the weapon used to kill Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque in Raozan on June 13. The revelation came after police apprehended Mohammad Mobarak, an associate of a known criminal, along with three other individuals during a gunfight in Fatikchhari.

We have initially confirmed that the pistol was looted, along with its magazine, from Kotwali Police Station under Chattogram Metropolitan Police on August 5, 2024. Mobarak told us that he obtained the firearm from someone else and used it to kill Masudul.

Superintendent of Police Masud Alam stated that the recovered 9mm pistol and its magazine were confirmed stolen from the Kotwali Police Station. According to SP Masud Alam, Mobarak confessed to acquiring the firearm from another party and subsequently using it to commit the murder.

During the gunfight, five police personnel sustained injuries. CCTV footage reportedly shows Mobarak carrying two firearms during the June 13 incident in Raozan, with one identified as the pistol looted from the police station. SP Masud Alam added that another fugitive criminal, Raihan Alam, allegedly identified Masudul as the target by sending his photograph to the shooter.

Masudul Haque, a senior joint convener of Raozan upazila Jubo Dal, was fatally shot at a market in Raozan. The assailants fled the scene in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. Masudul's elder brother subsequently filed a case naming 11 individuals in connection with the killing.

During preliminary interrogation, Mobarak admitted that the Jubo Dal leader was killed with the firearm looted from the police station.
