Plateau gov swears in two returning commissioners after election defeats

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has welcomed two former commissioners back into his cabinet, following their unsuccessful attempts to secure elective office. Bashir Datti, previously Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy Development, and Ephraim Gar, who held the portfolio for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, were officially sworn in again on Monday.

Both Datti and Gar had resigned from their positions to pursue nominations within the All Progressives Congress. Datti sought the party's ticket for the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, while Gar aimed for the Plateau Central Senatorial ticket. However, both aspirants were defeated in their respective party primaries, leading to their return to the state executive council.

The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Deputy Governor Josephine Chundung Piyo, saw the appointees take oaths of office and allegiance. Governor Mutfwang congratulated the returning commissioners, emphasizing the importance of discharging their duties with integrity and a strong commitment to public service. He urged them to align their work with the administration's "Time is Now" agenda, which prioritizes sustainable development, accountable governance, and inclusive growth.

The governor also stressed the need to reinforce governance institutions and enhance service delivery across key sectors.
