Plateau governorship aspirant clinches PDP ticket, promises one-term

Kefas Ropshik emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Plateau State governorship election in 2027, winning a closely contested primary. Ropshik secured 19,938 votes, surpassing three other aspirants and positioning himself as the party's contender against the incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who is expected to seek a second term.

I accept this mandate with a heart full of gratitude to God Almighty, whose grace has sustained this journey from the humble soil of Garram in Kanke to this defining moment in our state’s political history.

In his acceptance speech, Ropshik expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, and supporters, dedicating his victory to divine grace. He articulated his political philosophy as "Plateau First," vowing that his administration, if elected, would concentrate on critical areas such as security, youth empowerment, economic growth, and inclusive governance. He emphasized that his win represented a collective desire for a more prosperous Plateau State.

A significant highlight of Ropshik's address was his pledge to serve only a single four-year term. This commitment aligns with the state's established zoning arrangement, which aims to maintain peace, stability, and unity among the people of Plateau. "In line with the already laid out zoning agreement that keeps the peace, stability and unity of the Plateau people together, I intend to spend just four years in government, which by the special grace of God will usher in the impact of an eight-year administration," he stated, a promise met with applause.

Ropshik, who hails from Garram in Kanke Local Government Area, acknowledged the challenges faced by ordinary citizens and committed to prioritizing development and transparent governance. He also extended an olive branch to his fellow aspirants, urging them to unite behind his candidacy to ensure the party's strength heading into the general election.
