Plateau PDP opposes life pension for lawmakers bill, urges public resistance

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized a proposed bill that would grant life pensions to state lawmakers. The opposition party described the legislation, currently before the Plateau State House of Assembly, as "self-serving" and a potential drain on the state's already strained resources.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the PDP's Publicity Secretary, Choji Felix, highlighted the bill's ill timing. He argued that introducing such a measure amid significant economic hardship and persistent security challenges in Plateau State is inappropriate. The party contends that the bill, backed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-dominated House, prioritizes lifelong financial benefits for legislators over the pressing needs of the state's residents.

Consequently, the PDP has called for the immediate withdrawal of the bill.
