PLN Attributes Rising Electricity Bills to Hotter Weather and Increased Home Activity

Electricity provider PT PLN (Persero) has addressed customer concerns regarding rising electricity bills, attributing the increases to shifts in household consumption. The company cited hotter weather, leading to greater use of air conditioning, and increased time spent at home as primary drivers for higher energy use.

Gregorius Adi Trianto, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communication and TJSL at PLN, explained that these factors influence electricity consumption, resulting in higher bills for some customers. He emphasized that the recent bill increases are not linked to any changes in electricity tariffs, which remain fixed for the April-June 2026 period as determined by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The increase in electricity bills felt by some customers can be influenced by changes in electricity consumption patterns due to several factors, such as weather conditions, rising temperatures, and increased activities at home which lead to increased use of customers' daily electrical equipment.

PLN distinguishes between the electricity tariff, a fixed price per kilowatt-hour set by the government, and the total bill, which fluctuates with customer usage. The company noted that besides air conditioning, increased use of electronic devices for work, study, and other home activities also contributes to higher consumption.

To help customers track their energy use, PLN recommends using the PLN Mobile application. This tool allows users to monitor their electricity consumption history and token purchases, enabling them to identify patterns and understand the factors affecting their monthly bills.

PLN always implements electricity tariff policies as determined by the Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. For the April-June 2026 period, electricity tariffs remain unchanged from the previous period.
