PM Modi says he forgives students amid abusive video row: 'Let's guide the misguided'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered forgiveness to students who allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother during a recent protest at Jantar Mantar. In a video message, Modi referred to the individuals as "misguided children" who require guidance and support rather than punitive measures or lengthy legal battles.

Some mischievous children used very filthy abuses... Abuses were directed at me, and abuses were directed at my late mother as well.

Modi acknowledged that the language used by some protesters was inappropriate for a civilized society. However, he appealed to the public to focus on reforming these students instead of seeking retribution. He emphasized that punishing them or involving them in legal proceedings would not effectively change their circumstances.

These are misguided children, and showing them the way is our duty; we will not be able to change circumstances by punishing them, making them run around the courts, or harassing them in society.

Drawing an analogy, the Prime Minister compared the situation to accidentally biting one's tongue, suggesting that society should not abandon its own children for their mistakes. He extended an invitation to the students, encouraging them to move past the incident and contribute positively to the nation's progress. "Children, come, let us move forward together for the country," Modi urged, highlighting his commitment to their future.

The Prime Minister's remarks were made on the same day a Zero FIR was registered concerning a viral video of a woman allegedly using abusive language during the protest. The FIR, initially filed in Noida, was transferred to Delhi Police as the alleged offense occurred within the capital's jurisdiction. Police are currently reviewing the FIR to determine the next steps.
