PM questions necessity of Florida trip for mosquito control training

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has questioned the necessity of a proposed trip to Florida by Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) officials to learn about mosquito control. She suggested that innovative solutions could be developed by observing local mosquito breeding grounds.

The Local Government Division had sought approval from the Prime Minister's Office for Mayor Shahadat Hossain and five officials to visit Florida. The trip, funded by US-based Valent BioSciences LLC, aimed to observe advanced mosquito control and eradication methods.

However, the Prime Minister stated, "There is no need to go to Florida to learn or observe mosquito eradication. One can develop many innovative methods of mosquito control simply by spending two or three hours beside any stagnant water body in the country after sunset." She believes local observation is sufficient.

According to the Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary, Atikur Rahman Rumon, previous governments often wasted state funds on similar foreign visits related to mosquito control programs. He added that such trips, regardless of funding source, have not yielded effective results.
