PM Shah and army chief hold talks amid security concerns

Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Army Chief Ashok Sigdel held discussions on current affairs and the security situation at Singha Durbar on Tuesday. Officials described the meeting as a routine coordination effort, emphasizing the prime minister's role as head of the Ministry of Defence.

According to army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet, such regular meetings are normal given the prime minister's defense portfolio. The discussions reportedly touched upon the security situation in the Tarai districts, following recent unrest.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of a dispute involving Kathmandu-3 lawmaker Raju Pandey and army personnel concerning a road expansion project in Gokarneshwar. Sources suggested this issue may have been discussed, though the army stated coordination was already in progress. The dispute involved attempts to remove a boundary wall under army protection, with the lawmaker asserting jurisdiction over the area and the army officer citing the presence of a barracks.
